ARCHDEACONRY CHOIR FESTIVAL 2026
This year's Archdeaconry Choir Festival was hosted by the Anglican Church in Basel form 4th-6th September.
Months of preparations for the 30+ singers of the Basel section of the choir, four 3-hour rehearsals when David Blunden enabled us to learn our parts, all came together under the direction of Matthew Martin, Director of Music at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, with David Blunden’s support on the piano and organ. The choir was extremely appreciative of everything they taught us. It was wonderful to welcome singers from the Anglican Church Freiburg, and from the Geneva, Bern and Zürich chaplaincies.
Music sung included Matthew's ‘Vidi aquam’ as Introit, Dyson's Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis in F, Stanford's ‘For Lo, I raise up’, and Giovanni Croce's ‘In spiritu humilitatis’ where singers spilt into two choirs.
The choir sang Evensong in the Heiliggeistkirche on Saturday 5 Sept. The weekend culminated in a festive sung eucharist at the Predigerkirche, where our chaplain, the Rev’d Dorothea Bertschmann took the service together with Susanne Cappus, deacon at the Old Catholic Church.
Many thanks to everybody involved!
